The Wish List

I have this book called The Wish List, had it for, like, a billion years. It's 421 pages of weird, wonderful, and random things to do. The idea isn't to do them all -- which is good, because I have no earthly intention of skiing the Olympic jump at Squaw Valley or living in a yurt. Seriously, can you imagine me in a yurt? Anyway, the idea is to underline the ones you want to do and, when you've achieved them, "celebrate with a big red check mark." Perhaps my favorite thing about this book is that each page contains blank lines -- places where you can enter your own personal dreams. Every year, between Christmas and New Year's, I go back through my book page by page to see what I've accomplished, remember the things I still want to do, and see how my priorities have changed.

Currently, my top five are these:

1.) Help others find their words. My five-year plan is to finish my master's so I can teach professional writing and genre literature at the college level as well as creative writing through continuing ed. Meanwhile I'm authoring a series of easy-to-digest writing reference books and encouraging every aspiring author I can.

2.) Have an amazing closet. Yeah, this is my frivolous one, but I want it just the same. I want a full-blown walk-in closet, at least 12' x 12' with racks, shelves, specialty jewelry storage, and a gorgeous chaise lounge right in the center.

3.) Spend a Thanksgiving weekend in NYC. One year -- just once -- I want to forgo turkey-roasting and potato-mashing duties in favor of watching the parade (from my warm hotel room or its slightly chilly balcony). Then I want to see the tree and go skating at Rockefeller Center, then finish the day with a carriage ride through the upper west side after dinner at Tavern on the Green.

4.) Have a professional astrologer cast my chart. No, I don't believe the stars dictate or predict our destiny. I do, however, believe that God stuck them in the sky to do something other than twinkle and I believe we should seek to know our true selves -- both the good and the bad. Most general descriptions of Aquarius fit me quite well and I'd be interested to see a detailed report.

5.) Buy the rights to all my favorite author's books and turn them into movies. Specifically, turn them into the kind of movies I think she would have liked. I suppose it's arrogance to think I know what she'd want, but what are you gonna do? If I ever win stupid big money, the Charlotte MacLeod and Alisa Craig books will be coming to a theater near you.

So that's it. My deep and my superficial; my planned-for and my pie-in-the-sky. Share yours below, if you get the urge. Maybe you'll hit something I want to do too and we'll go on an adventure together!

Until next time,
Mags

An awesome friend gave me The Wish Book recently. :) I can't express how much I love it! So inspiring and fun.

I want a closet like that--in white please!

Lets go to Rockefeller Center together, even if it means busting our tailbones on the ice rink. ;)

An astrology reading would be cool, and I want MY books on film. lol

First, I think you are wise to include the pie-in-the-sky alongside the practical. Wild dreams come true all the time.

Second, I want, nay, I covet that closet!!! Covet, covet, covet!

Third and so on... Bravo on the teaching, I'd love to spend Christmas in Paris but would not turn up my nose NYC. WOOT! And, I'm with you on the stars.

Off to add some wild dreams to my tame and practical (boring) goals!

When you get that crazy stupid money, let me know?

Let's all go to NYC!

Sherry, you are so on my girl's-only party flight to the Bahamas when said dollars come rolling in! You know what would make that closet better? Shemar in black tie waiting to zip up your dress and fasten your necklace :-) Thanks for stopping by... and don't forget, we'd love to have you guest!!

Maggie,

Very nice post.

Come see my closet. It's not 12x12, however, you'll be amazed what an Elfa system can do for the smallest of walkin closets.

I, too, want to do Thanksgiving, the Macy's Day parade in New York. When my husband worked for the AP, we had plans to go, but then he took another job...so I'm still waiting. I also want to see Chris Botti at the Blue Note in NYC in December. Maybe this year?

I know an excellent astrologer, I mean excellent! (I studied astrology for a couple of years. It is an overwhelming topic and all I was seeking was a minimal working understanding.)

AND, I know several film makers in ATL whom I know would love to team up with you. On Tuesday, I'll be discussing with Kelly Silverman about making a booktrailer for my book, which is beneath her talents, since she is a filmmaker with credits.

I know you will achieve your dreams. Your determination gives me faith not only in you, but in me, too.

Smiles,

Linda Joyce

Wow, we're going to have to charter our own bus for the NYC trip!
Kim - the cowboy thing is hilarious... and soooo you!

Linda - thanks for coming by and for your lovely comments. How did I know you'd have a closet of envy? Oh yeah, 'cause I've seen pictures of your kitchen ;-) There are excellent studios just a few miles from us in the town I want to ultimately live in and my husband knows actors and extras galore, but it is exciting to have a film maker hookup! I've done lots of live theatre and I have a strong feel for how the story should be played, but I don't know a thing about making a movie. Also, we've got this random idea for a horror screenplay that I'm going to write just as soon as I clear my plate of things that absolutely must be written first -- and figure out the conventions :-) I'll be talking with you about that astrologer, too. That's one thing I've promised myself I'd strike off the list this year :-)

I'm not far from NYC. Wanna go? lol.
I love your list, Maggie. Like you, I have my own wish list. Here are just a few things on it: 1.Hit the bestseller list with Jewel of Ramstone (it's my baby)
2. Visit Italy
3.Live in Italy
4. Learn Italian.(Ha!Can you tell I married an Italian?)
5. Conquer my fears (not gonna list them here, but I have already overcome one--getting my work out there.)
6. Touch someone's life in some way, every day.
7.Become financially independent...which brings me back to the first thing I mentioned. :)
I love this blog! You get me thinking with your FIVE idea posts. :) Nice change to the blog.
