Dream a Little Dream
Here's the thing. I'm supposed to be the hardass of the group -- the unemotional, analytical, no-nonsense, get-it-done-right-the-first-time-with-a-minimum-of-fuss pragmatist. And I am. Mostly. Except...Okay, okay. So I have a romantic streak. A big one. Massive, actually. It shows up in my extensive collection of hair flowers, my obsession with high-end chocolate, and the burnished gold wrought iron four-poster hung with royal blue velvet curtains and tied with ten-inch gold and blue tassels that I sacrificed to hubby's claustrophobia.
So maybe my dream dates are a little extra-dreamy. That, my fair darlings, is just how I roll!
1.) Miami Make-out Mambo - once upon a time, I got bumped from my stodgy business extended stay to a stupendously fabulous Miami hotel thanks to a booking error. Every surface was white... including the tent-like cabanas surrounding the crystal-clear pool. The night air was thick and sultry. The music a Latino lust song. Most of the door flaps were drawn -- and the ever-so-faint sounds from within left no doubt as to why. So, yeah, that's dream date #1 :-D

2.) Picnic Please – I admit, I’m a sucker for
a picnic. Good cheese, crusty baguette, a little ham salad, a little red wine.
And of course a bit of ultra-dark chocolate as finale. The scene need not
be fancy. I don’t need the Tuscan countryside, though I wouldn't turn it down.
A bench by the lake at Stone Mountain works just fine. So does a picnic table
at an Interstate rest stop.
3.) Dippity-do (how I love fondue!) – For sheer romantic decadence food-wise, give me a three-course fondue dinner every time. Melting Pot? Certainly. But my dining room in candlelight does just as well. Luscious tastes, sizzling heat, delectable smells, and a cooking method that forces us to do what we so often neglect: slow down, talk, reminisce, and enjoy.
4.) Spotlight Delight - Ah, community theatre. The energy of the audience, the glare
of the lights, the camaraderie of a full-cast production. I’d love to play
leading lady to my honey’s leading man, ring down the opening night curtain to
tumultuous applause, and rush off the stage to a riotous cast party.
5.) Scent-sational – Ever seen Simply Irresistible? You know that scene, near the end, where the entire room of diners breaks into dessert and the room goes quiet as vanilla steam pours from the confections and permeates the air, drugging everyone into languid, enchanted delight? Our main characters dance across the floor, past couples laughing with silent joy and tall, elegant vanilla orchids. Vanilla fog swirls about their feet and eventually, they realize they are no longer touching the ground. They are literally floating – on magical vanilla-scented air. Sigh.
So those are my faves -- the familiar and the far-out.
Now tell me: what's in your wildest imagining?

I love all five of your dream dates, Mags! I've never seen Simply Irresistible, but now I want to.
February 4, 2013 at 9:41 AMOkay... more info please on Simply Irresistible please.
February 4, 2013 at 11:10 AMAnd where was that hotel in Miami...? *wink*
I think I prefer the fondue. Dream date or girls night out...either would be fine with me.
February 4, 2013 at 6:50 PMThose are some great dates, Maggie.
February 4, 2013 at 10:07 PMMy bestest date ever was a climb to a mountain tea house. After refreshment, we climbed the rest of the way to the mountaintop, and Hubster, who was not my Hubster at the time, found me a nice smooth rock to sit on so we could have our picnic in the fresh glacial air with a spectacular view... except instead of a sandwich, I was presented with a ring.
I love my Hubster.
Thanks everyone. Kim, we'll have to do a girl's night in at my house for fondue one day! Sherry - what an awesome date! Thanks so much for sharing! (And when are you going to guest with us, my dear?)
February 5, 2013 at 11:26 AMPam & Cheryl - Simply Irresistible isn't exactly Steel Magnolias, I admit, but I love it. Cheryl - it's the one I said your Piper reminded me of. It's a Sarah Michelle Gellar flick and basically she inherits her folks' restaurant but is running it into the ground because she can't cook, but then magic lends a helping hand in both the cooking and romance departments and things proceed apace :-)
I could see smashing all these together into a mega dream date! Sent-sational is so beautifully worded. For a second I swore I smelled vanilla!
February 7, 2013 at 8:29 AMAw, thanks Virginia. I heart vanilla
February 8, 2013 at 9:29 PMWow...girl what an imagination! You need to start a new business--a dream date planner! I would pay to go on a fondue dipped picnic in Miami with a spot light on the vanilla scented dancing. Yeah...that's it. :) a combo mombo.
February 9, 2013 at 2:14 AMLOL, trust the writers to want to load everything into one book, er, date, lol.
February 12, 2013 at 9:01 AMLove your dream dates!
February 12, 2013 at 4:36 PMI went to Ron Wood's club on Miami Beach for New Years Eve...many years ago. We witnessed the Make-out Mambo...Maggie was that you?
Smiles,
Linda Joyce
Heh, Linda, 'fraid not. Not that time anyway ;-) Incidentally, are you aware that you're fabulous? Like jet-setter fab?
