2. There are way too many candles in my house. Seriously, between the bathroom and the living room, I count sixteen — 16! — candles. This is not an ode to Molly Ringwold, nor is it absolutely necessary, because I do have electricity and I do pay the bill. There are never too many books though, and believe me, this family carries its share.
3. I.Am.Frugal. The Coupon Queen, Discount Diva, Southern Sales Siren. Yes, I check out the clearance rack first and use coupons and codes. I follow Krazy Coupon Lady and Southern Savers on Facebook, various DIY boards on Pinterest, and Goodwill’s blog on Wordpress. I sew, paint, and repair broken things with glue. I blame my Depression – raised parents. This book lives on my coffee table (a Pottery Barn find bought at a yard sale for $40), and I was an original subscriber to The Tightwad Gazette (could explain the candles).
5. For me 2013 has been a very bad, no good, horrible year. I’ve started following midlife bloggers and reading and writing more womens’ fiction romance because I want to make connections between the good and the bad parts of life. Everybody has bruises and scars and embarrasses themselves with the occasional toot-out-loud. Life is messy and beautiful and much too short. There can be no shadow without light. So… Write. Publish. Sing out loud and dance all night. Hug someone and say I love you. Forgive. Eat dessert first.
Everything works out.
